Troubleshoot
Update. Make sure your email client has been updated to the most current version.
Antivirus programs can interfere with sending and receiving email. Try disabling your antivirus program. If you can then send and receive after disabling your antivirus program, you will need to create exceptions or modify rules in your antivirus program to allow your email client to function normally.
Firewalls. Firewalls can also interfere with sending and receiving email. Try disabling your firewall. If you can then send and receive after disabling yourfirewall, you will need to create exceptions or modify rules in your firewall to allow your email client to function normally.
Google is your friend. Often your email client will return a specific error or error code. Google that! It is very likely that someone else has had the same problem that you are having and has found a solution.
Remain Calm! Everything has a solution. :)
